the other stuff

Lifeandrea

the light was beautiful today as I photographed a recipe for bella eats. while risotto simmered away i set the table, and noticed that the light was quite nice on the 'other stuff' i was using to style the images. it reminded me of my new living space series, and the importance of capturing details beyond a specific subject...

Lifeandrea

jackie and wes | expecting

Lifeandrea

While in Florida for Christmas (how was that one month ago?!?) I had the pleasure of photographing my best friend from college. Jackie and Wes are expecting a baby girl, due to arrive sometime in the next few weeks! I am so excited for them, and can't wait to meet their little one very, very soon.

Congratulations, you two! xoxo.

ten years

Lifeandrea

I didn't make it to my ten-year high school reunion in Florida this past October. Luckily, most of my best high school friends were in town for Christmas and we were able to plan a mini-reunion in Orlando. I hadn't seen most of these amazing people in 6+ years, and some for a full 10! It was such fun to catch up, meet spouses, and see where we all wound up. I'm really proud of each one of these friends, and wish we hadn't all scattered across the country so that I could see them more often. Best of luck to you all; hopefully I'll see you before the next 10 years rolls by!

meet lilly!

Lifeandrea

Brian and I have reached that point in our lives when just about everybody we know either has a baby or is expecting. We are surrounded by chubby cheeks and tiny toes! I've so enjoyed photographing the little ones who've already arrived (a bit too much, which is scary for both of us!) and look forward to the many more on the way this year.

Brynn and I went to architecture school together in Florida, and were roommates for two semesters. She is the first of my undergraduate college friends to have a baby (our other roommate is due in February!) and I was so excited that she contacted me to photograph little Lilly. It was such fun to catch up with Brynn and Jesse, and to meet their sweet little girl. Lilly was a dream during our session, and didn't even protest too much with all of the outfit changes. And look at that head of hair!

Brynn and Jesse, thank you for choosing me to photograph your family. Hopefully we will see you all this Spring!

Baby sneezes may be the cutest thing ever...

When Lilly is fussy, Jesse gently blows on her face and she instantly calms down. So sweet.

what a year!

Food, Life, Spaceandrea

When the clock struck midnight on January 1st, 2010, Brian and I vowed that the year ahead would be one for making changes and tackling dreams. We had no idea that 9 months later I would choose to leap from the path I'd been traveling, quit my job, and pursue photography full time. It has been so exciting, and at times scary, to watch this dream I've harbored for 12 years become a reality. It would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our family and friends. To each of you a tremendous thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

And to Brian, whose faith in me is incomprehensible...I love you.

Here are some of my favorite AHP shots from the last few months of 2010. Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2011!

xoxo. Andrea

martin family portraits

Brian's family joined us for Thanksgiving this year, and while they were visiting we held a mini family portrait session at Veritas Vineyards. It was cold and blustery, gray and gloomy, but we still managed to have a good time playing in the vines.  Perhaps it was the double flight tasting beforehand?  :)

We found a backhoe.  And of course, we had to climb on it.  Why not?

We also found the last of the fall color...anywhere.

I snuck into the last one...

meet jack! | charlottesville family photographer

Lifeandrea

This little man just turned 3 months old!  what a cutie.

jack and harper are buddies, and very good sports! I can't tell you how difficult it was to get both baby and pup calm and in the same frame!

somebody was getting tired...

I think we found the very last tree in charlottesville with any color left...and took advantage!

thank you katie, carter, jack, and harper!  it was lovely to meet you all.

meet the callahans | charlottesville family photographer

Lifeandrea

We photographed one of our favorite foursomes just before the last of the Autumn color disappeared from the trees.  They were so fun to work with, and such a beautiful family!

Thank you, Callahans, for being rockstars. And, for being such good friends!

My view on the left, Brian's on the right. I love the look Steve is giving Kelly.

Ah, this shot kills me!  Such a beautiful family!

I am a little torn, but I think this last image is my favorite. Callahans...you sure do know how to work the camera!

beth + mike's fabulous philadelphia wedding

Lifeandrea

Brian and I felt so very privileged to be guests at the wedding of two dear friends in Philadelphia the weekend before last. Beth and I were classmates at UVA, and she is one of the most amazing women I've ever met. Truly. I miss her terribly, and not-so-secretly hope that she and Mike and Brian and I wind up living in the same city again some day.

This wedding was so very Beth and Mike. The venue was the Bahdeebahdu Studio, an amazing space filled with light sculptures created using found, recycled, and salvaged objects. The bride and groom entered together, walked down an aisle defined by their closest friends and family to Beirut's Guyamas Sonora, and married themselves in the Quaker tradition. As they stood under an altar they handcrafted with the help of both of their grandmothers and read the vows they'd written for each other after 11 years together there was not a dry eye in the house. It was magical.

While I was not the official photographer, I couldn't help but to capture moments from this beautiful evening in an incredible space. A camera is the best accessory to evening attire, no? :)

Beth and Mike, much love to you both. xoxo.

Each of the pieces for these fabric pom-poms were cut by Beth and Mike and shipped to their grandmothers. The grandmothers assembled the poms and shipped them back to the couple, who strung them for their altar. So, so pretty.

The light sculptures at Bahdeebahdu are amazing. The studio is an old auto shop; a perfect lofty backdrop for such unique pieces.

The bride and groom performed a hot and sassy tango for their first dance. Beth's dress is 1950's vintage...and perfect.

and baby makes three | charlottesville family portraits

Lifeandrea

Brian and I photographed this sweet family on a crisp, Fall afternoon last week. Mark + Rebekah have been good friends for a few years now and the addition of little Lucy to their life has been a joy to be part of. She is such a content and cuddly baby, chock full of smiles and squeals. Thank you for a fun afternoon you three!

defining time with place | charlottesville family portraits

Lifeandrea

Little L just turned 1 year old. 1! She is thisclose to walking, and her parents wanted to capture this incredible stage of her life. The family just moved to Charlottesville and were excited about a portrait session that reflects this time and their new city. We had a lot of fun downtown, finding locations that scream "Charlottesville!", and some that acknowledge L's love of trains. Thank you E family, it was lovely to meet you all!

kath eats real food | charlottesville headshots

Lifeandrea

Kath writes the popular healthy living blog, Kath Eats Real Food. She and her husband Matt recently moved to Charlottesville to open a Great Harvest bakery. Kath wanted some headshots to use in marketing materials both for her blog and for bakery promotion, so she and I met last week to chase sunbeams around her front yard. We had a lot of fun discussing good food, camera equipment, and this fabulous city we live in. Here are a few of my favorites from our session. Thanks, Kath!

mark + adrienne | engagement session in charlottesville

Lifeandrea

I met Mark and Adrienne on the day they met each other.  The three of us were about to embark on two years of graduate education in the School of Architecture at UVA, and just happened to strike up a conversation at Spring orientation. Here we are 4-1/2 years later - they are engaged to be married next Summer and I am honored to have been chosen to photograph the day. I can't help but to be excited by the subtle symbology present - the fact that the only other person witness to their first words to each other, the words that started a friendship and eventually a romance, will be the person to capture the moments of their wedding day.

Brian and I had such fun photographing these two in locations that fit both of their personalities. Below are some of our favorites, but we had an incredibly hard time narrowing them down!  Mark and Adrienne - thank you for indulging us.  We are so looking forward to your wedding next Summer!
