happy birthday, my love!

Lifeandrea

30 years old. We met at 18, started dating at 20.  My, how the last decade has flown.  I am so incredibly proud of you, and of us. How we've grown as individuals these last 10 years while also growing as a couple. As Brian and Andrea, B+A, BHubb and AHubb.

B, you're everything to me. I can't wait to experience the next 10,20,40,60 years with you.

Yours, always. :*

[We'll enjoy this double chocolate cake with raspberry filling and vanilla meringue buttercream tonight!]

julie + kevin | a new york engagement session

Lifeandrea

Meet Julie + Kevin, a fun, artistic couple living in the cutest apartment in Brooklyn. They are getting married April 28 (a date very special to Brian and I...our own wedding anniversary!) in Richmond, but I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to photograph them in their adopted city two weeks ago. We share many interests - food, art, mid-century modern furniture to name a few - and spent a great afternoon in Brooklyn and Coney Island. There may have been an amazing Italian lunch. And hot dogs at Nathan's. And a meat pie. (Did I mention that we all love food?)

It was a frigid day to stand on the beach in the piercing wind, but the light was incredible and these two rocked our session.  Julie + Kevin, we are so very excited for your wedding in April, our first of 2012!

audrey + javier | a washington DC engagement

Lifeandrea

We were in DC a few weekends ago to photograph Audrey + Javier, our 10.13.12 couple.  They are so much fun!  We love that they asked us to capture them in their favorite places...their adorable apartment and fabulous neighborhood, Logan Circle.  And, they made us lunch, which was incredibly welcome and warming on that very chilly day!  Brian and I had a great time getting to know this fantastic pair, whose wedding we are so excited for next Fall!

Audrey + Javier, thank you for a lovely afternoon.  We can't wait to hang out again soon!

Also, I'll be attending Imaging USA. So, if you're there and want to meet for a meal, please get in touch through twitter.

Happy weekend, friends!

Lifeandrea

Since leaving the world of architecture and entering self-employment 14 months ago, I have been continually amazed at the open and accepting community of photographers in Charlottesville. I have made some great friends this year, professional artists who have invited me to work alongside them. Today I am sharing a few of my images from some of those weddings, all experiences for which I am so grateful.

Many thanks to Sarah, Eric, and Anne + Bill!!!

looking back on 2011

Food, Life, Retail, Spaceandrea

The last was my first full year devoting 100% of my working time to Andrea Hubbell Photography. Looking back on the last 12 months I can't help but feel proud, humbled, and most of all, so very appreciative. For having the opportunity to chase this big, BIG dream. For all of the people who have made this my reality. For all of you..the family, friends, clients, and colleagues who have put your trust in me. And for Brian, without whom none of this would be possible.

2010 was for making changes and a big, big leap. 2011 for chasing dreams and surviving. 2012 will be for seizing the reins, being proactive, taking chances...challenging myself to be and do better, every single day.

I wish you all a happy, healthy, inspiring 2012!

[here are some of my favorites from 2011...thank you, each one of you, for an amazing year!]

bradley + casey | engaged!

Lifeandrea

Bradley + Casey will be married on 05.12.2012!  We spent a beautiful Autumn afternoon with the happy couple and their pups...hiking through woods and climbing over hay bales.  We are so excited for their wedding next Spring at Fat Cat Farm!

The image below pretty much sums up our session with the pups! :)

caitlin + kevin | married 10.08.2011

Lifeandrea

Caitlin + Kevin were married in Crozet, in front of the Blue Ridge Mountains, on October 8th. These two and their friends were completely awesome...so trusting and enthusiastic about all of our suggestions. They followed their sweet nuptials with a party at the X Lounge, but not until Brian and I took them on a detour to a downtown parking garage. Let me just say...I love a couple that is excited when we throw out the suggestion "how about bridal party portraits on top of the garage?"!!! With backgrounds similar to our own (both graduated with degrees in architecture) we knew that the commanding lines and warm concrete would be right up their alley. :)

When planning their wedding, Caitlin + Kevin simply wanted to 'get married in a field' and 'rent out a bar with all of our closest friends and family'. They succeeded, and the resulting laid-back nuptials were so much fun to be part of. Big Hokie fans, the bride and groom even went so far as to have the game playing during their X-Lounge party. The Hokies must have gotten the memo, because they were kind enough to win their game against the University of Miami. The images of the final minutes of the game are some of my favorites.

Caitlin + Kevin...thank you for inviting us to be part of your day and for trusting our ideas. We wish you a lifetime of happiness, and hope that our designer paths cross again one day soon.  xoxo.

october in virginia

Lifeandrea

October is my very favorite month in Virginia. Today we took advantage of a beautiful afternoon and met friends in Afton for the Cardinal Point Oyster Roast.  Afterwards, we took the long way home so that I could grab shots of the unbelievably gorgeous light and sky that I kept geeking out over.  I brought only a film camera with me, but couldn't resist some instant gratification with my iphone. The shots with me in them were, obviously, taken by Brian. :)

Happy Fall!!!

eliza + ben | married 09.24.2011

Lifeandrea

Eliza and Ben were married at James Monroe's historic home, Ash Lawn-Highland, on September 24, 2011. Clouds lingered overhead without spilling a drop, keeping the temperature pleasant for this lovely outdoor wedding. E+B have an incredible group of friends and family that came together to make their day the perfect celebration of their love, and Brian and I were honored to be part of it. This was one of the most emotional ceremonies we've been witness to, with not a dry eye under the trees. And, who doesn't love a wedding with the tarantella mid-reception?!?

Thank you, Eliza and Ben, for keeping us laughing the entire day. You two are such fun, and obviously so in tune with each other. We loved how you seemed to forget we were present during portraits, completely consumed with each other and your joy. We wish you a lifetime of happiness, and look forward to cultivating our growing friendship. xoxo.

food photography + styling workshop at the heritage harvest festival [tomorrow!]

Lifeandrea

Tomorrow is the Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello, the first of Charlottesville's fall celebrations that add to my love for the season. This year I will be giving a little workshop/demonstration/chat about food photography and styling under the Relay Foods tent at 10:15am. I hope you can join us! It will be a very informal affair, and my presentation is pretty short so I'm guessing I will give it a few times over the hour allotted to me. If you're at the festival (and you should be, for so many reasons!!!) I'd love for you to stop by and say hi!
