beyond the flavor | a lot of action!

Food, Publishedandrea

There has been a lot happening over on Beyond the Flavor these last few days!

We have Tucker Yoder from The Clifton Inn sharing his recipe for a Seasonal Garden Vegetable Medley.

C-Ville Weekly featured us in their Farm To Table issue, on stands today!

We covered the Blue Ridge Oyster Festival, and got rained on.

And have been busy playing with baby goats and ducks. We have a new post up on Beyond the Flavor every week...we hope you're joining the fun!

This season's issue of Edible Blue Ridge has a feature article about charcuterie...one of my favorite subjects!  Many thanks to Collin Donnelly and The Red Hen in Lexington for this fun and informative photo shoot. And for the dinner it inspired a month later at The Red Hen, during which we (Brian, Sarah, Matt, and I) consumed one of those pig heads shown below.  Yes...we did.  And it was amazing!!!

I am so honored to have been asked to write, style, and photograph a story in the new wedding publication, The Clutch Guide. This bridal luncheon was inspired by the Friday lunch at Galatoire's we experienced during our last trip to New Orleans. For the recipes of some of our favorite NOLA dishes, check out pages 47-53 online

Many thanks to Jennifer Prince of Hill City Bride for asking me to be part of such a beautiful publication!

introducing...beyond the flavor!

Foodandrea

After several lunches, many glasses of wine, long hikes with our dogs and an inspiring trip to New Orleans with our husbands, Sarah and I took a leap and combined our two visions to create this delicious collaboration. We love working together, and are thrilled to finally share our new project with you.

Introducing...Beyond the Flavor!

We believe that recipes are deeper than the ingredients used to prepare them, and are reaching beyond the flavor to capture the stories behind meals shared at the tables of local chefs, farmers, bakers, and food enthusiasts. We hope you'll visit, sit back and enjoy the stories behind the meals that fill our town.  This is just the beginning.

galatoire's friday lunch

Food, Restaurant, Spaceandrea

One week ago we were at Galatoire's for one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. And it wasn't just about the food. The celebratory ambience, hospitable staff, wonderful company, and an invitation to photograph the kitchen of one of New Orleans' oldest and most famous restaurants made our afternoon unforgettable.

Friday lunch at Galatoire's is a New Oreans tradition. Locals gather to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, reunions...any excuse for a party. We arrived late and were seated at 2pm after cocktails in the upstairs bar. The first thing you notice when you walk into the dining room is the revelry...people up and about and shouting across the room. We sang Happy Birthday at least 6 times to guests dressed in their absolute best. Feathered hats, sequined gowns, dripping jewels...you can't overdress at Galatoire's. Our table was in the back corner, the perfect place to view the festivities surrounding us. Our waiter, Imre, has worked at Galatoire's for 40 years, and when he found out this was our first visit he quickly snatched our menus away. From the kitchen poured the restaurant's favorite dishes...soufflé potatoes, shrimp rémoulade, oysters rockefeller, crab salad, poisson crabmeat yvonne, poisson mèuniere amandine. And then, Imre and Executive Chef Michael Sichel invited us into the kitchen. Sarah and I may have squealed...and jumped up and down a few times, too.

Welcome to Galatoire's...

Check out the latest Edible Blue Ridge for a story about Harrison + Jennifer Keevil of Brookville Restaurant in Charlottesville, one of our local favorites! I wanted to share a few other images from our shoot, but be sure to pick up the magazine or view it online.  There is a recipe for those bacon waffles and also the apple ginger soup, both of which I can't wait to try. Yum!!!

Also, visit the restaurant soon for their famous burger. I assure you, it is worth every penny, but be sure to share with a friend because it is HUGE!

looking back on 2011

Food, Life, Retail, Spaceandrea

The last was my first full year devoting 100% of my working time to Andrea Hubbell Photography. Looking back on the last 12 months I can't help but feel proud, humbled, and most of all, so very appreciative. For having the opportunity to chase this big, BIG dream. For all of the people who have made this my reality. For all of you..the family, friends, clients, and colleagues who have put your trust in me. And for Brian, without whom none of this would be possible.

2010 was for making changes and a big, big leap. 2011 for chasing dreams and surviving. 2012 will be for seizing the reins, being proactive, taking chances...challenging myself to be and do better, every single day.

I wish you all a happy, healthy, inspiring 2012!

[here are some of my favorites from 2011...thank you, each one of you, for an amazing year!]
