vacation on lake oconee

Lifeandrea

We spent a few days in the middle of July celebrating Brian's mom's 50th birthday in the best way we knew how...at the lake. On a pontoon boat. With mimosas...and wine...and champagne. By the pool. Eating steak. Spending quality time.

We had such fun for 4 days, and wish we could have joined the family for the full week. Looking at these images has me longing to go back...right this minute.

We love you, Mom!

xoxo, A+B

PS: the camera was passed equally between the two of us, so this is a nice mix of shots from both Brian and me.

NOVA getaway

Lifeandrea

Waaayyy back in May, Memorial Day weekend actually, Brian and I went for a little getaway to northern Virginia with friends. We stayed at Evan's mom's home, a beautiful piece of property outside of DC. We picked strawberries, cooked together, shared vino, saw the first fireflies of the season, watched for shooting stars, and stayed up late into the night chatting over flickering candles. It was a lovely time to be away, just before the heat became completely intolerable, although we could have done without the mosquitoes and gnats. Just looking at these images makes me want to go back this Fall, when the weather decides to cool down again.

Thank you especially to BJ, for opening your home to us and our pups!

meet cole + finn!

Lifeandrea

I had such fun spending a morning with these two brothers! Cole had a great time showing me his racing cars and favorite backyard hang-out spots, and Finn is the sweetest baby boy. What a great stomping ground they have to play in!

to the lake we go...

Lifeandrea

I will be out of the office for a few days, heading south for a mini vacation with Brian's family. We're so excited for a break...I can already feel the sun on my arms and the lake at my toes! I will be checking email periodically but response times may be a bit slower than usual...

Enjoy your week!

welcome, olive!

Lifeandrea

She's here!  Olive, born on July 4th, 2011.  These images were captured when she was not even 20 hours old yet. Look at those sweet little lips!

Congratulations, Tommy + Kristin!  We love you guys, and can't wait to watch this tiny girl grow!  xoxo.

mark + adrienne | married 06.04.2011

Lifeandrea

Mark + Adrienne were married in Bethesda, Maryland three weeks ago today. And what a lovely wedding it was! We started the afternoon in Kentlands, where the reception would begin hours later. M+A indulged Brian and I with time for portraits before their ceremony, giving us the opportunity to wander around the picturesque community. With picket fences, quaint streets and the sweetest green house we had plenty of visual candy to inspire us!

I am so excited to share these images with you all, and especially with Mark + Adrienne. Enjoy, and happy weekend!

we loved seeing the happy couple surrounded by their happy family.

Mark + Adrienne, you asked us to join you before we'd ever had the opportunity to photograph a wedding. You put complete and total faith in us, and for that we will be forever touched and grateful. Thank you for asking us to be part of your day, it was truly a pleasure.

xoxo,

andrea + brian

tommy + kristin | a baby party

Lifeandrea

Tommy + Kristin are having a baby girl! I helped them to plan a party a couple of Saturdays ago...actually, you might want to call it a fiesta. There were carnitas and black beans and dulce de leche cupcakes, along with some very festive balloons. Here are a few details from their fun day...

The party decor was inspired by these invitations that T+K picked out at Rock Paper Scissors, which I embellished...

If you're interested in the recipe for those dulce de leche cupcakes, you can find it on Bella Eats. I promise, you really, really want to try them.

Food, Lifeandrea

if you know me, or have read bella eats, you know that I am a big fan of food. especially, local food. i am passionate about cooking and eating seasonally and believe that each one of us can do a little something to support small farmers, chefs, businesses, and individuals making sustainable choices. Two years ago i chronicled brian's and my home garden on bella eats, sharing stories and images and recipes inspired by the food we were growing right in our backyard. this year, i've been lucky to have the opportunity to share a bit of space in the green house at maple hill farm, home of the Local Food Hub. If you're not familiar, the Local Food Hub is a community supported nonprofit working to strengthen and secure our local food supply by supporting small, family farms, increasing the amount of fresh food available to our community, and inspiring our next generation of farmers. I am proud to be part of a community that supports such an organization, and thrilled to have the opportunity to share images of their beautiful land and facilities with you here.

this spring, summer, and fall I will be sharing images from my time at the farm with two girlfriends, emily (local food hub) and stephanie (flavor magazine) as we grow food for our home kitchens. It will be a joint ahphoto and bella eats project, with the bulk of the place and detail photography happening over here, and the final dishes and recipes happening over there. I hope it won't be confusing, and will try to keep it simple. Let's just see how it goes.

below are images from 4 weeks ago, when Emily, Stephanie, and I ventured out to the farm on a rainy and cold March weekend to plant our seeds. We filled twelve flats...twelve! On Saturday we went back out to thin the seedlings, which had all grown to between 1 and 4 inches tall. Happy little seedlings...

blackened redfish

Lifeandrea

happy friday, friends! I hope you've had a pleasant week, despite the not-so-spring weather we had in charlottesville. my birthday was tuesday, and my gift from brian was a set of beautiful cast iron pans. we had to break them in, of course, and the most obvious choice for us was chef paul prudhomme's famous blackened redfish. i am working on a new orleans taco recipe for bella eats which isn't quite perfected yet, but as soon as it is, i'll be sharing!

have a wonderful weekend...will I see you at the charlottesville city market tomorrow morning?!?
